On a Sunday praying for a friend of us who passed away, we came to Giac Lam Pagoda, a historic Buddhist pagoda in Tan Binh district, Ho Chi Minh City. This pagoda was built in 1744. It is one of the oldest temples in the city. We were impressed by the ancient beauty of the pagoda.
With more than 25 years in the tile production, we naturally looked at the floor as our habit. So amazing, we found the ancient encaustic cement tile floor everywhere in the pagoda. The star pattern in black/white/grey! One of the best-selling patterns in Secoin’s encaustic cement tile factories these days. We could not imagine that this tile pattern was back in 1744.
Although the floor has become yellowish in some parts, it still reveals the timeless beauty. The pagoda has gone through a lot of renovation but the encaustic cement tile floor has been preserved as a precious part to tell the story of our culture and history.

Nowadays, star patterns have been modified a little into different versions and with so many colorways. Below are only some of them in black and white (our favourite colors).
If you have a chance to visit Hochiminh City, Giac Lam Pagoda may be one of the places to visit for history and culture. Besides, you are welcome to visit Secoin showroom in Hochiminh city to discover over 500 master pieces of handcrafted encaustic cement tiles.
